Three Men, one Davie and a Little Lady
THREE MEN, ONE DAVIE AND A LITTLE LADY join forces to ‘Plod’ for children’s charity!
Gary Millen, Craig Davidson, Douglas Elder, support driver David (Davie) Rankin and Laura McEwan are the friends and workmates who make up ‘Three Men, One Davie and a Little Lady’ team participating in the Trossachs Plod, in aid of children’s charity, Action Medical Research. Currently in training for the event, which takes place on 5 June 2015, ‘little lady’ Laura, is already finding it hard being the only female in the team! “I’m only 5 foot 3 inches so I’m finding it tough keeping up with the men at times, my little legs simply don’t move as fast as theirs!”
Despite Laura not enjoying “being covered in muck” and finding their training days somewhat of a trial, she said that they all jumped at the chance to participate in the event, seeing it as a motivational challenge as it supports an amazing charity. “The majority of us have children so Action Medical Research and the work that they fund is something that we feel we can relate too.”
“I’m sure that I can be annoying at times, being the only female, but we are a close group and support each other well as we each bring different qualities to the team”, says Laura. “I really can’t imagine doing this with anyone else, they really are amazing.”
Likewise although Douglas admits to sometimes raising his voice at Laura when she’s texting, rather than picking up the pace, he also agrees, “We make a great team and are lucky to get on so well.”
Craig said “The Trossachs route itself, which starts in Aberfoyle, is spectacular and I know that we’re all also looking forward to the breathtaking landscapes of Loch Drunkie, Loch Acray and other awesome lochs, glens and majestic mountains.”
So far Laura and her colleagues have received significant support from local businesses including the Blair Drummond Safari Park, The Stirling Highland Hotel, The Falkirk Wheel, The Torbrex Inn and Lumia Spa who have donated prizes for a raffle to raise further funds. Action Medical Research is a leading UK-wide charity working to save and change children’s lives through medical research. We believe that the diseases that devastate the lives of so many of our children can be beaten. We have been funding medical breakthroughs since we began in 1952 like the first polio vaccines in the UK, ultrasound in pregnancy and the rubella vaccine – helping to save thousands of children’s lives and change many more.
Just one breakthrough, however small, can mean the world.
