Thruxton 100: new closed circuit sportive

26 July 2013

Push your riding to the limits on this new 100 mile sportive with a difference – a closed circuit: no cars, no hills, no stress, just ride!

The new traffic-free Thruxton 100 will allow its riders to be purely cycling focused; working hard to log a top time. 100 miles is approximately 42 circuits of the Thruxton Circuit, Hampshire, and all riders will be timed.

The organiser, Action Medical Research, is inviting up to 300 entries to complete the 100 mile challenge on Saturday 7 or Sunday 8 September, joining other riders on the RIDE24 challenge.

The Action team promise to spoil riders with access to massage, hot food, sports nutrition from High5, mechanical support and, for those that want to make a weekend of it, on-site camping is available.

Thruxton circuit in Hampshire is the fastest race track in the UK and one of the longest. Like many race circuits Thruxton was originally a war time airfield. Decommissioned in 1946, motorsport started in 1950.

The layout follows the lines of the perimeter road. It’s a challenge no matter what mode of transport you choose to lap in. The combination of long sweeping corners and tighter ‘complex’ and club chicane are unique and reward the brave.

Less experienced riders should allow up to 10 hours to finish the course. There are three start time options to choose from:

  • Join the RIDE24 racers at the starting line on Saturday 7 September at 2pm for your 100 mile challenge
  • For the night-riders, sign up for the very special 10pm start Nocturne ride through the hours of darkness!
  • For the early-birds, rock up on Sunday 8 September for a 7am start.

Funds raised will go to Action Medical Research, a UK-wide charity saving and changing children’s lives through medical research.

Secure your place for £50 at this unique sportive. Free parking also available.
