Trek to support Action Medical Research ride series

7 December 2011

Leading bike brand Trek is to team up with children’s charity Action Medical Research in a two-year partnership to support their popular RIDE100 and DIVA100 cycling events in 2012 and 2013.

The RIDE100 series features 22 100-mile or 100-kilometre rides taking place in stunning cycling locations across the UK. The DIVA100 series, launched last year by TV’s Davina McCall, is the charity’s expanding range of women-only rides, which in 2012 will feature new events in the Midlands and Scotland alongside the established south-east ride in Sussex.

These events have enjoyed continued growth and success in the booming sportive market. The new partnership will see Trek utilising its prominent position in the cycling industry to promote the events and encourage more people to ride more often, via its extensive dealer network in the UK.

Action Medical Research funds vital work into conditions affecting babies and children and is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2012. Research currently being supported includes work around meningitis, epilepsy, cerebral palsy and premature birth, as well as some very rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.

Malcolm Davies, Trek’s European Subsidiary Director, says: “Trek is happy to support the work of Action Medical Research through this partnership. The charity’s experience and professionalism in organising sportive events has been proven over more than five years and we are excited to be associated with both the RIDE100 and DIVA100 series. We are confident that together with Action we can create a memorable experience for enthusiast riders, and at the same time help raise money for a worthwhile cause.”

Mark Trott, Cycling Development Manager at Action Medical Research, says: “We are extremely excited to be working with Trek and very proud to associate our events with one of cycling’s biggest brands.”

Action Medical Research - the leading UK-wide medical research charity dedicated to helping babies and children - is celebrating 60 years of vital research in 2012. Since we began in 1952 we’ve have spent more than £100 million on medical breakthroughs that have helped save thousands of children’s lives and changed many more. Today, we continue to find and fund the very best medical research to help stop the suffering of babies and children caused by disease and disability. We want to make a difference in:

• tackling premature birth and treating sick and vulnerable babies
• helping children affected by disability, disabling conditions and infections
• targeting rare diseases that together severely affect many forgotten children

But there is still so much more to do. Make 2012 a special year and help fund more life-changing research for some of the UK’s sickest babies and children.
