TV’s Dr Dawn Harper gets ready for Action DIVA Warwickshire

8 May 2013

Dr Dawn Harper from hit Channel 4 TV show Embarrassing Bodies is getting ready to take to two wheels in the Action DIVA Warwickshire women’s bike ride on Sunday 19 May. The event will raise vital funds for children’s charity Action Medical Research and there is still time to sign up and join Dawn.

The ride will start and finish at the Menzies Welcombe Hotel Spa and Golf Club in Stratford-upon-Avon and there is a choice of three circular countryside routes to suit all fitness levels – from a ‘cool’ 21 miles, to a ‘classic’ 30 miles, up to a ‘champion’ 64 miles.

Warwickshire College students will also be on hand to pamper riders after the event, offering a range of beauty treatments and massage free of charge.

Dawn, who can currently be seen on screen on Tuesday nights presenting Embarrassing Bodies Live from the Clinic, says: "I am really excited about this all ladies cycle ride. I have cycled with Action Medical Research many times before and the events are always exceptionally well run. This is our chance to show some ‘girl power’ and make a real difference to the future of some of Britain’s most vulnerable little people. Don’t just think about it, sign up now and I’ll see you there!”

The Action DIVA Warwickshire raises money to help fund medical research into a range of conditions affecting babies and children. Especially close to Dawn’s heart is the work the charity supports around pregnancy complications and premature birth as two of her three children were born early, her youngest at just 32 weeks.

The charity is also currently supporting work around meningitis, Down syndrome, epilepsy and multiple sclerosis, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.

The event is supported by leading bike brand Trek and includes plenty of rest stops and refreshments. The top fundraiser will also win use of a new Range Rover Evoque for the weekend of their choice, kindly donated by Guy Salmon of Stratford-upon-Avon and Coventry.

Entry costs £28 and participants also need to raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship.
