TV’s Phil Spencer leads Castle RIDE100 through the Garden of England
Phil Spencer from TV’s Location, Location, Location, is for the fourth year taking on the Castle RIDE100 through the beautiful North Downs, the Garden of England. TV’s favourite property expert, Phil is saddling up for the Castle Ride in Kent on Sunday 18 May, setting out from Tonbridge Castle. The ride is organised by children’s charity Action Medical Research and Phil is urging cyclists to join him.
Phil says: “As a dedicated cyclist, the Castle Ride 100 is my favourite ride of the whole year. It really is stunning, taking in the North Downs and loads of quiet county lanes. It’s incredibly well organised, attracts over 1,000 riders and is supported by first class medical support, mechanical services, great volunteers and wonderful snacks!
“At the Action Castle Ride 100 you can take on the shorter Cool route, which is ideal if you’re new to cycling. The Classic route is more challenging and the Champion route offers you the stiffest challenge and throws in the horror of Hollingbourne Hill into the mix. Go on, give it a go and join me!”
Last year’s event saw more than 950 riders come together to share the challenge and amazing scenery, and raise a fantastic £72,000 for the charity.
Phil, says: “If you’re new to cycling, or considering making 2014 the year you get out on a bike, it’s a fantastic sport and one of the few in which absolutely everyone, of all ages and ability, can take part in and enjoy doing together.”
The Castle Ride 100 is part of the charity’s popular RIDE100 series of one-day bike rides taking place across the UK. All include chip timing, food and water stations, lunch, marshals and mechanics.
Cyclists participating in the Castle RIDE100 will be raising money to help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children. Medical research can save and change children’s lives. Yet surprisingly, medical research into conditions that devastate children’s lives is poorly funded. Action Medical Research has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952. The charity is currently supporting work around stillbirth, epilepsy, meningitis, cerebral palsy and brain cancer, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.
