Vision1 Racing and Action Medical Research join forces
The new women’s professional cycling team, Vision1 Racing set up by Olympic and World Champion Nicole Cooke, is pleased to announce an exciting new partnership with charity Action Medical Research. The team, led by Nicole, will wear the logo of Action Medical Research with the strapline 'Official Charity Partner' on their kit. The aim is to publicise the important work undertaken by the charity, highlight awareness of their renowned cycling events and encourage fundraising for their causes.
The partnership was formed following discussions initiated by Cyclevox, the media and sponsorship consultancy run by Anthony McCrossan and Brian Smith. Commenting on the partnership Anthony said, 'Cyclevox has been working on behalf of Nicole’s Vision1 team to form long term partnerships. The instant we looked at Nicole’s well thought-out objectives and the fundraising strategy of Action Medical Research, we knew there was synergy so we initiated meetings and discussions which have resulted in this exciting alliance. In 2009, Nicole and the team will support some of the fundraising rides and make appearances, whilst carrying the branding of the charity all over the world. We are proud to have brought Action Medical Research and Vision1 Racing together.'
Nicole Cooke, visiting one of the Action Medical Research projects in London said, ' Seeing the research being carried out by the medical team was so inspiring. I am proud to be able to support Action Medical Research by drawing attention to their charity, support their fundraising events and the work which is helping change the outcome of people’s lives'.
Director of Fundraising at Action Medical Research, Lewis Coghlin said:
"Children's charity, Action Medical Research is delighted to be the official charity partner of Vision1 Racing and look forward to working together to increase participation in our bike rides. Vision1 Racing represent the very best in the world of cycling and as a charity that offers a unique portfolio of 100-mile rides across the UK, the biggest London to Paris ride with up to 600 participants, an elite Spanish event and the brand new Ride24, an endurance team relay challenge, we have a natural synergy. Nicole Cooke is an inspiration who has shown that hard work and dedication can result in great achievements, which reflects the charity's own philosophy."
The partnership will also provide links to the charity website www.action.org.uk from Vision1 Racing and the opportunity for fans and riders to buy replica Vision1 kit with a donation being made to the charity.

Action Medical Research is a leading, national medical research charity. For nearly 60 years we have been instrumental in significant medical breakthroughs including the development of the UK polio vaccine and ultrasound scanning in pregnancy. Our research helps babies and children affected by disease and disability. We are currently funding research into serious diseases and conditions, including meningitis, pneumonia, cerebral palsy, eczema and premature birth.
Our special appeal, Touching Tiny Lives, funds vital research to help the most vulnerable babies in this country. More research is needed to ensure that all babies, especially babies born prematurely, have the best possible start in life. To date this appeal has raised almost £4m to fund over 30 high-quality medical research projects into pregnancy complications and premature birth.
