Walk for Tiny Lives event in Strathclyde Park raises £1,000 for children’s charity

16 April 2014

On Saturday 12 April 31 people took part in a Walk for Tiny Lives event at Strathclyde Park to raise £1,000 for children’s charity, Action Medical Research. The walk covered a three-mile route around the park and was organised by two Action volunteers; Amy who’s aged 14 and Lorraine Graham who has volunteered with the charity for over four years.

The charity’s mascot Paddington Bear™ also appeared at the park on the day to spur on walkers and there was also a raffle to win two unlimited ride wristband tickets, courtesy of M&D’s Theme Park in Motherwell.

Amy said: “We had great fun organising our walk and what a magnificent day it turned out to be, seeing families having fun together with people of all ages made it all worthwhile – and of course it was fantastic to raise funds for such a great cause.”

Cecilia Cooper, Community Fundraising Manager in Scotland, said: “I’d like to say a massive thank you to Amy for organising this event and to Lorraine for supporting her. It was a great day out for everyone and they really ensured that everyone had fun whilst raising much-needed funds for Action Medical Research.”

The money raised will help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children. Medical research can save and change children’s lives. Yet surprisingly, medical research into conditions that devastate children’s lives is poorly funded.  Action Medical Research has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952. The charity is currently supporting work around stillbirth, epilepsy, meningitis, cerebral palsy and brain cancer, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.
