Zoe Ball's Letter to Editors

Zoe says ready, teddy, go!

I am writing on behalf of Britain’s most lovable bear, Paddington Bear. He has asked me to invite your readers to be ‘un-bear-lievable’ and help raise funds for sick and vulnerable babies.

Paddington’s annual Bring Your Bear event takes place across the UK between June 25th and 29th. This year marks the tenth anniversary of the event and Paddington wants as many schools as possible to take part by letting children bring a teddy bear or favourite cuddly toy to class for the day in exchange for a £1 donation.

Last year Paddington’s young supporters raised more than £80,000 for the Touching Tiny Lives campaign, run by Action Medical Research. And this year we want to raise even more money by encouraging as many schools and children’s groups as possible to get involved by running their own, fun, Bring Your Bear to school days.

Every year around 70,000 babies need special medical care when they are born – that’s a staggering one in ten of all babies in the UK. Tragically, more than 3,000 babies die before they reach their first birthday, and premature birth is the biggest cause. Many more will have to cope with disabilities for the rest of their lives.

Touching Tiny Lives is funding vital research into the causes of premature birth, and, most importantly, looking at ways to prevent it. By joining Paddington in this fun event, your school can help ensure more babies have the best possible start in life.

Please register by calling Paddington’s hotline on 01403 210406 or visiting www.action.org.uk/byb

Yours faithfully
