Summer Bowling Competition 2013

A massive thank you to all the bowlers who braved the hours of rain to take part in the 'Summer' bowling competition at Malone Bowling Club.

The day raised an amazing £2,000 for children's charity Action Medical Research.

The winning team, the 'Bowler Hots' from Hilden BC, consisted of John Jordan, Billy McCandless, David Ferguson and Jackie Freeborn. They beat off runners up, 'The Latecomers' - Barry Carson, Eric Mairs, Jeffrey Coppell and Irvine McKay from Malone BC by one shot in a one end play off in the final.

The day ran very smoothly given the weather, after two sessions, play ended early to prevent a third soaking of the day! NI Chair, Pamela Ballantine praised everyone for taking part under such conditions. Expressing her sadness for not getting the opportunity to throw a few bowls down the green with Malone BC Men's President David Nelson, she wasn't quite able to wipe the big grin from her face!

A massive thank you to Keith and Di Hanna and the Hillsborough Committee for all the organising and sustenance they provided all day.

Thank you to Fraser Thompson for running the competition on the day and to Perry Orr for again providing an excellent bowling green.

Lots of grateful thanks to all the very kind people who donated ballot prizes, bottles, buns, cakes and beer. And to everyone who helped on the day you were fabulous and we couldn't do it without you.

We all look forward to seeing you again next year and hopefully some summer sun!
