Douglas Allen | Action Medical Research

Douglas Allen

Douglas Allen has been supporting Action Medical Research since 2010 and to-date have helped to raise over £155,000 for our charity.

The Essex estate agents (who have 16 offices throughout the county) combine with four other property brands to become the Arun Estates group, making it the largest independent estate agency in the South East.

Together, through pushing themselves through grueling challenges – including the Blenheim Triathlon, Box Hill Challenge, Kingston Run and Color Runs in both London and Brighton – the team have played a vital role in fundraising for Action Medical Research.

Group Managing Director David Lench has been leading the fundraising from the front and has single-handedly raised almost half of the huge total. Embarking on personal challenges such as the Three Peaks Bike & Hike, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and riding from Land’s End to John O’Groats in 2015, David has raised over £69,000 since 2011.

One recent project that has directly benefitted from the impressive total raised by David and the Arun Estates team include research into a new meningitis vaccine, focusing on specifically fighting the MenB bacteria which is found in 90% of children’s cases.

They’ve also helped to fund research into whether drug treatment can work alongside cooling for babies with brain damage.

As well as the adrenaline-fuelled activities, Douglas Allen and other Arun Estates employees have been busy baking, dressing up and organising fun events such as car washes, quiz nights, football tournaments, a gala dinner and dance competitions.

During 2016, the team will be donning the Lycra and cycling ‘around the world’. The latest challenge will see each office put their feet to the (static bike) pedal to do their bit in cycling 18,000 miles to raise even further funds for Action Medical Research.

We would like to thank the whole group for their enthusiasm, dedication and creativity which will enable us to help more poorly children and babies for years to come.
