Glasgow ladies dig deep
Organisers are delighted to report proceeds in the region of £90,000 from the most recent lunch, which took place in November last year. As one of Action Medical Research’s biggest fundraising events, the lunch has gone from strength to strength, with funds raised in 2006 reaching an all-time high.
Seven hundred ladies, five of whom are pictured right, gathered at Glasgow’s Hilton Hotel to indulge in some five star wining and dining, and help their favourite charity. The lunch has become a well-established date in the Glasgow social calendar, and organisers attribute its success to the combination of good food, up-market venue and time of year — the lunch provides guests with a last opportunity to let their hair down before the chaos of Christmas sets in good and proper.
Another important element is the great entertainment. This event saw top Scottish stand up comedienne Karen Dunbar deliver a fantastic set — in 2005 Tony Hadley topped the bill. The day is always punctuated with opportunities to add to the fundraising total through an auction, raffle or star prize draw, all offering some stunning prizes.
Of course, none of this would happen without the dedication and commitment of the organising committee who give up much of their time to ensure the smooth running of the event. The growing popularity and success of the Ross Hall Ladies‚ Lunch is a fitting tribute to their hard work.
