Touching Lives - November 2005
Chuckle for Charity
‘Stand Up for Tiny Lives’ is a ‘one night only’ stand-up comedy extravaganza that will really put our Touching Tiny Lives Campaign on the map. It promises to be a fantastic evening, with top names from the world of comedy putting their full celebrity weight behind Touching Tiny Lives as they indulge in some rib-tickling fun.
The invited audience of patients, researchers, donors, volunteers and celebrities can look forward to a truly memorable evening of entertainment. ^The aim of the event is to raise the profile of the Campaign with a younger audience, by encouraging well-known comediennes to speak out (loudly) on the issue of premature birth.^
Through humour we want to challenge public perceptions of the risks and consequences of premature birth and pregnancy problems. We want more people to understand the emotional, social and financial costs of these serious health problems, which affect thousands of families every year.
^Stand Up for Tiny Lives will mark the start of stronger campaigning by Action Medical Research to give premature babies and their parents a voice that demands to be heard — to call for more Government funding in this neglected area of research.^
We are also planning a range of awareness- and fund-raising initiatives next summer using the ‘Stand Up’ theme, to run alongside the main comedy event, including web-based promotions and ‘viral’ email marketing and an online competition to win tickets for the show.
Three high-profile comediennes have already shown interest in appearing, so watch this space for date and venue details. For more information contact Zoë Mitchell on 01403 327404 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
