Brunel building named after famous professor
Professor Wolff has come a long way since his associations with Action Medical Research began; in 1983 we awarded him funding to establish the Institute of Bioengineering at Brunel — in a Portakabin! Heinz and his team worked from there for three years before relocating to a more permanent structure on the University’s campus.
Professor Wolff is a keen supporter of this charity, among many other things, simplifying science for our readers through his Jargon Busters column.
The science building’s new name was unveiled by the Duke of Edinburgh in July. Professor Wolff commented,”If I had been asked who I could have chosen, given the whole world to choose from, I can say in all honesty that the Duke of Edinburgh would have been my first choice. He has a tinkle of humour and, always, instantaneous understanding.”
Professor Wolff showed the Duke, Patron of Action Medical Research, some of the living aids he has developed for the elderly, also with the help of this charity’s funding.
