Bring Your Bear 2007 is great success

Bring Your Bear is a tremendously important event for us. It gives everyone the chance to celebrate Paddington’s birthday and raise vital funds through having loads of fun. It’s also a lovely way to unwind at the end of term!

We have had fantastic feedback from those taking part, and so many people have kindly written to us to tell their Bring Your Bear stories and share their pictures. The fundraising activities have been so imaginative, with ideas including: • The Terrifying ‘Tedapault’ • The Teddy Choo-Choo Train • Guess the Teacher’s Teddy • Robo-Ted (!) • Best Dressed Teddy

Haberdashers’Aske’s School for Girls deserves a special mention not only as the top fundraisers so far this year, but also for how creative they have been. The pupils each decorated a matchbox to look like Paddington’s suitcase. They were then sponsored by their families and friends to fit as many items as possible into the matchbox. Some of the pupils managed to squeeze almost 200 bits and pieces in — a mind-boggling feat of perseverance and dexterity!

One of the most touching stories shared with us was from a school which had a very special visitor for their Bring Your Bear day.The parents of a pupil have fostered a premature baby and very kindly came along to the school so that all the children could meet the baby. This was a poignant reminder of the serious issues underlying all the fun to be had on Bring Your Bear day and really demonstrated to the children why they, and indeed all of us, must keep raising funds to help Tiny Lives.

Bring Your Bear also attracted attention in the media, and we did two radio interviews.TV personality Zoë Ball also lent her personal support to us and did a brilliant job of raising awareness. Many schools and nurseries got in touch with their local papers about Bring Your Bear, and sent us clippings of the lovely articles written about them.

Thanks to the effort made by all you amazing people, we have so far raised £78,028 and the total is still climbing! We would like to wish the best of luck to all of you whose Bring Your Bear events are about to happen — we can’t wait to hear all about it and see your pictures! Please do get in touch with us at
