Touching Lives - November 2007
Making a splash
Featured in the Spring issue of Touching Lives, Caroline, from Southend on Sea, suffered from debilitating epilepsy for more than 30 years. As well as coping with weekly seizures, she also had to deal with the side-effects of taking a range of medications to try and control her condition.
In 2004, Caroline had life-changing surgery. This was made possible thanks to the development of new scanning techniques, enabling doctors to pinpoint the exact source of her seizures and remove that part of her brain. Since then she has remained seizure-free. Prior to her operation, Caroline was unable to risk being in a pool alone in case she had a seizure in the water, making this an extra special fundraising challenge.Well done Caroline!
