Action Medical Research is a UK-wide charity with a strong presence in Scotland and a proud tradition of funding ground breaking research, including supporting the development and rapid adoption of the first polio vaccine which eradicated new cases of the disease in the UK.
Scotland has long been a place of medical discovery and Action Medical Research has contributed to this country’s innovation, funding over 70 projects at Scottish institutions in the last 30 years alone. This charity-supported research has had a major impact on healthcare, both in the UK and internationally.
Current research
Some of the currently funded grants are working on vision problems in children and infections such as meningits. We are also investing in a study on the rare autism-spectrum disorder Rett syndrome.
