Research

We identify the very best medical research to help save and change children’s lives.  We currently fund over 70 projects across the UK. You can search by condition to find current and recent research projects to see the difference we're making.

Some of our current research projects look for new treatments to improve health for all. Health problems that occur in adults often have their origins in events at birth or in childhood. Treating childhood conditions early can also help to minimise the symptoms in adulthood. While improving diagnostic techniques, surgical procedures, and equipment such as MRI scanning will bring benefits to anyone of any age.

Our research covers three vital areas of unmet medical need to help children of all ages:

Treating sick and vulnerable babies

We aim to reduce the unacceptably high rate of premature birth, prevent pregnancy complications that threaten babies’ lives, and find the best ways to care for sick and vulnerable babies.

Helping disabled children

We aim to support children facing a life-time of challenges caused by disabilities such as cerebral palsy; help children dealing with the impact of disabling conditions like juvenile arthritis, diabetes, epilepsy, stroke and multiple sclerosis; and prevent potentially deadly infections like meningitis, septicaemia and pneumonia.

Targeting rare diseases

We aim to develop cutting-edge therapies for rare and devastating diseases for which there is currently no cure including the severely disabling genetic condition Rett syndrome, rare forms of blindness and rare brain diseases, as well as brittle bone disease in children.

Our Successes

With your help, the research we have funded has helped save and change so many children’s lives. Here are some of ways research is making a difference.
