September 2023 sees the sixth edition of the annual bike ride for the construction and built environment sector – ‘Ziggurat’. The ride is sponsored by industry leaders Brett, Day Group, Maylim and for the first time, Herbosch-Kiere. The event provides people working in the industry an opportunity to network and raise funds to support medical research for sick babies and children.

The cyclists are representing a number of companies including teams from BGD, Willmott Dixon, Baxhall Construction, Multiplex and Darke and Taylor, amongst others. The cycling networking tour will see around 70 riders cycle over 300 miles from London to Roubaix on a fully supported four-day ride mixing a traditional battlefield tour with roads familiar to fans of the Spring Classics including Flanders and Roubaix. The route heads up the French coast past Dunkirk passing through numerous WWII landmarks and battlefields before finishing at the Iconic Roubaix Velodrome for a celebratory lap of the track just like the pros on Paris-Roubaix.

Chairman of Brett, Bill Brett, said: “Action Medical Research do fantastic work funding medical research to help sick babies and children. Brett are proud to be supporting the Ziggurat ride again this year and are very much looking forward to the challenge – as well as taking in the historical sites of France along the way.”

Corporate Events Fundraiser at Action Medical Research, Lucy Holloway said: “Action is so grateful to all our supporters of Ziggurat to enable us to deliver our sixth annual bike ride for the construction and built sector industry. We are delighted that Herbosch-Kiere will join our key partners Brett, Day Group and Maylim to make this special event possible and raise funds towards our vital research to help sick and disabled babies, children and young people.”

Action Medical Research is a UK-wide children’s charity which funds desperately needed research to tackle the diseases that devastate the lives of so many of our children. The charity is striving to develop treatments and cures to tackle rare diseases that cause so much suffering for children and their families. Medical research gives hope – hope for new treatments, hope for a cure and hope that no family will have to go through the heartbreak of losing a child to a rare disease.

Action Medical Research is currently appealing for support as part of its Children’s Rare Disease Research Campaign, to help raise funds for research into rare diseases that affect children. Please  visit www.action.org.uk/rare to learn more.
