July 2024 sees the fifth edition of the annual bike ride for the insurance industry ‘Raptör’ coming together to help raise funds and awareness for children’s charity Action Medical Research.

Action Medical Research is very grateful to be supported by founding partner Ki, as well as continued sponsorship by key leaders in the insurance industry including Brit, SCOR, Lockton, Lloyd’s of London and Ascot. They are delighted to have additional support this year from Verisk, Everest, Guy Carpenter and Aspen Insurance.

This year will see over 80 riders taking part while based in Yverdon-Des-Bains in Switzerland, taking on different aspects of the Jura Mountains each day. The route will be split on the third and fourth day to offer riders an even greater challenge; with the tougher version riders will ride 280 miles climbing 23,000 feet, and other riders completing 215 miles over 14,000 feet.

Mark Allan, CEO of Ki Insurance, said: “Ki is very proud to support such a worthwhile charity and one that is so close to my heart. The Raptor ride continues to grow as an event that brings the whole the Insurance Industry together to help fund vital medical research to improve the lives of children”.

Action’s Corporate Events Fundraiser, Lucy Holloway said: “We are thrilled that this will be a bumper year for our annual insurance ride Raptör this summer, taking on the Swiss Jura Mountains for the first time. This is our fifth annual bike ride and we are hoping to hit the £1m mark since we launched the event. We could not do this without the support of our key sponsors Ki, Brit, Lloyd’s, SCOR and Lockton, as well as new support from Verisk, Everest, Guy Carpenter and Aspen who make it possible to enable us to continue funding vital research to help sick and disabled babies, children and young people.”

Action Medical Research is a UK-wide children’s charity which funds desperately needed research to tackle the diseases that devastate the lives of so many of our children. It has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952 including helping to introduce the first polio vaccines in the UK, developing the use of ultrasound in pregnancy and testing the rubella vaccine.

The charity is currently funding research into areas including premature birth, epilepsy, scarlet fever, cerebral palsy, brain cancer and some rare and distressing conditions.
