Davina McCall joins Southampton ladies for charity fundraiser

10 November 2011

Davina McCall was back in Southampton on Friday (4 November) to host her special Dine with Davina event, which raised £30,000 for children’s charity Action Medical Research.

The sell-out event brought 400 local ladies to the De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel for an afternoon of fun, fine dining, and fundraising. Local DJ Rick Jackson of Wave FM’s drive time show acted as MC and John Cameron, expert presenter on BBC shows Cash in the Attic and Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, led the charity auction. Take That tribute band Never 4 Get then got everybody dancing.

This is the fifth year mum-of-three Davina has hosted the event for Action Medical Research, a charity dedicated to helping sick babies and children.

Davina said: “I can’t quite believe this year is our fifth Dine with Davina event! We’re still having just as much fun as ever and most importantly raising money for a charity that is very special to me. I’m lucky enough to have three healthy children but I’m very aware that not every family is as fortunate as ours and Action Medical Research does fantastic work to help some of the UK’s sickest babies and children.”

Leigh-Beth Stroud, Community Fundraiser at Action Medical Research, said: “Dine with Davina continues to go from strength to strength and is such a pleasure for everyone involved. A big thank you to the organising committee for all their hard work throughout the year, to DFE Commerical and Next for their support and of course to our lovely guests who return year after year to support the charity. We hope to see everyone again next year!”

The Dine with Davina event is supported throughout the year by a team of local business ladies who help with promotion, secure some fantastic auction prizes, sell advertising space in the souvenir programme and generally ensure the event is a huge success.

Davina has already pledged further support for the charity in 2012, when she leads women-only bike ride Davina’s DIVA100 in Sussex on Saturday 13 May. For more information please contact Sarah Stevenson at Action Medical Research on 01273 735788 or email sstevenson@action.org.uk

Action Medical Research is the leading UK-wide medical research charity dedicated to helping babies and children. We know that medical research can save and change children’s lives. For 60 years we have been instrumental in significant medical breakthroughs, including the development of the UK polio vaccine and ultrasound scanning in pregnancy.

Today, we continue to find and fund the very best medical research to help stop the suffering of babies and children caused by disease and disability. We want to make a difference in:

• tackling premature birth and treating sick and vulnerable babies
• helping children affected by disability, disabling conditions and infections
• targeting rare diseases that together severely affect many forgotten children.
