Garmin ride raises £35,000 for Action Medical Research

23 October 2015

Cyclists on a ride organised by Action Medical Research for Garmin have raised more than £35,000 for the children’s charity.

The Garmin Ride Out 2015, on Friday, 4 September, saw a select group of Garmin customers join the Cannondale-Garmin’s professional cycling team for a fundraising ride in the New Forest.

Each cyclist paid £25 to take part and limited edition 2015 Garmin Ride Out jerseys were also sold in aid of the charity, while a raffle with prizes including top-of-the-range bikes provided by Cannondale, Madison Genesis and Cycle Republic also helped raise funds for Action Medical Research.

"It was great to see so many people from the world of sport at Garmin Ride Out 2015," says Richard Daish, Garmin's Fitness Marketing Manager. "The event helps cement our position as the leading brand in cycling GPS technology whilst donating to a charitable cause. It was a superb day and we would like to thank supporting organisations, brands and riders for their contribution in making the event beneficial for Action Medical Research and enjoyable for all."

“We are so grateful to Garmin and all those who joined the Ride Out to help raise this impressive sum,” says Louise Stone, National Events Manager for Action Medical Research. “We believe that the diseases which devastate the lives of so many of our children can be beaten so this money raised by cyclists will help to continue to fund more projects and potential breakthroughs.”

With the help of its supporters, Action Medical Research has played a significant role in many medical breakthroughs for more than 60 years, from the development of the first UK polio vaccines to the use of ultrasound in pregnancy. It is currently funding research into meningitis, Down syndrome, epilepsy and premature birth, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.
