PLODs pave the way for more challenges
Some 95 teams took part in our overnight endurance events raising a staggering £130,000. The PLOD series of events took place in June in four stunning UK locations: on the classic South Downs Way, in the Scottish Borders, in Northern Ireland’s beautiful Mourne Mountains and in the Cotswolds, which was a new route for 2010.
Starting at midnight, groups of walkers competed against each other, navigating tough terrain PLODs pave the way for more challenges in the dark using head torches. As well as testing stamina, participants relied on teamwork, strategy and intelligence to gain bonus points for completing extra tasks en route.
The events always attract plenty of challenge-hungry participants, but 2010 saw the best turnouts yet and a record amount collected.
“We are pleased to report our most successful ever year of PLODs,” said Head of Community Fundraising David Graham. “Feedback from teams suggests this is probably one of the toughest outdoor challenges, but many return year after year to beat their previous best time.”
Following the success of this year’s PLODs, a further three have been added to the 2011 calendar: one in Yorkshire, another in Scotland and a southern PLOD.
