Company champions lend their support

Our dedicated corporate supporters help raise many thousands of pounds to fund lifesaving work for sick babies and children. We’ve been especially pleased to welcome some new names this year.

We’re delighted to have the backing of Pure Gym, now the largest fitness chain in the UK with over 150 gyms nationwide. They are holding special Action classes and fundraising days across the country, as well as promoting our bike rides to customers and giving out free passes to riders at our cycling events.

Another special thank you goes to the folks at Mace Foundation, the charitable wing of the international consultancy and construction company, who have donated £5,000 towards a research project looking into childhood brain cancer and identifying the best treatment.

We’ve also been adopted by the Brighton-based Gingerman Restaurants Group, who hope to raise £20,000 by adding a £1 donation to desserts and children’s meals on the menu at their four restaurants. The money raised will go towards Dr Owen Williams’s research into acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (see page 13).

One Stop convenience stores again supported Action by asking customers across the UK to donate their spare change for the whole month of May, raising £25,000. This year many staff really went the extra mile by dressing up, running competitions and taking part in events. A huge thank you to both staff and customers!

On the cycling front, AON Benfield adopted Action for their annual staff and client Summer Bike Ride in the New Forest in July. Almost 200 riders took part, raising more than £50,000, and Paralympian Darren Kenny MBE came along to set them off.

Meanwhile our forthcoming Champions of CycleSport Dinner, held in November, will be supported by title sponsor Garmin for the next two years. They are jointly supporting with Maserati, who are new to the line-up. BDO VELO will again be supporting the event, sponsoring the drinks reception, and we are delighted to also welcome back Keepmoat, who are sponsoring the night’s popular auctions.

Thank you all!
